首席教練

術語：板凳教練、Head Coach

說明：

首席教練是總教練底下的教練，主要工作是輔助總教練並給予建言，或協助下達戰術。
如遇總教練因故缺席或遭禁賽時，由首席教練暫時代理總教練職務。
有時也稱為板凳教練或副總教練。
在日本職棒中，稱為ヘッドコーチ、ベンチコーチ或總合コーチ，但Head Coach於美國則多半與Manager（總教練、經理）通用，未另行分類。

代理時機：

總教練請假未出席比賽時。
總教練遭到驅逐出場時。（總教練被裁判員驅逐出場時，於總教練抗議終了被驅出場後恢復比賽時，由其代理到比賽結束；唯該場比賽的勝敗仍記於原總教練。）
總教練遭到禁賽處分時。（總教練禁賽場次期間，由其決定及簽名攻守名單，並全場代理總教練之職。其代理期間勝敗皆記於該代理教練。）
總教練身兼球員身分並於該場比賽上場時。
