【於慶中／綜合外電報導】美國知名愛護動物組織「動物權利基金會」(Animal Rights Foundation)執行長、62歲的婦人勒茲曼(Sandra Lertzman)，日前被俄亥俄州警方發現，陳屍在自家車庫中，密閉的車庫內停著一輛發動的汽車，勒茲曼的身邊則有著31隻愛犬的屍體。警方初步研判，勒茲曼是帶著這群自己收養的小狗們一起自殺，但詳細死因仍待確認。

消息傳出後認識勒茲曼的人都覺得「不可能」。勒茲曼投身動物保護運動達40年，鄰居表示：「她真的很愛這些小動物，每天都親自餵牠們」，很難想像她會一次殺死這麼多隻自己熱愛的小狗。車庫中只有1隻小狗活了下來，警方表示，這隻小狗幸運地發現了車庫邊的一個隙縫，得以呼吸到新鮮空氣。勒茲曼的家裡被發現還有一群收養的流浪貓，已經由當地的流浪動物中途之家暫時接手。
